Hope for the Homeless Project

Thank you for stopping by to learn more about our "project". If you aren't sure how this whole crazy thing got started, read my post Tension. It explains the things that were going on in my head at the time. Also, see Action and a Call For Help for more details on the project and our Christmas Day service.

I have to be honest, I hate calling it a "project". The word implies something temporary, even if it is long term. I would like to see helping the poor and homeless as a lifelong commitment, something I do not because I have to, but becuase it's second nature.

I also don't want it to become complacent second nature, like getting up and going to work, but joyful second nature, like hugging a friend I haven't seen in a long time. I can't help but squeal with joy and want to hug them when I see them. It just happens. That is how I want ministry to be.

I have set out to try to get Sacramentans to hand out 2300 bags of hope to the poor and homeless in our communities between now (September 2012) and Christmas Day 2012. In just a week, dozens of people have pledged to join us through my blog, facebook, twitter and face to face. 315 bags have been promised to date, though I know that many, many more than that will be given out, if your responses are any indication.
If you are participating and are a blogger, please let me know so I can link up to your blog. I would love for others to hear more about what you are doing, so that they can be encouraged as well. This is definitely a community effort!

If you are participating , please use the above picture on your blog, facebook, post it to twitter, instagram, whatever! If you can, link back to this page, but if not, that is fine.

Again, thank you for wanting to join us on this!
